Brucella Diagnostic Reagents

Brucellosis is a highly infectious bacterial disease affecting cattle, sheep, pigs and goats. The organism primarily targets reproductive tissues, with infection often remaining undetected until late‑term abortion occurs. Reliable diagnostic reagents are essential for accurate screening, surveillance and confirmatory testing in livestock populations.

Brucellosis remains a key concern for livestock production due to its impact on reproductive performance and its potential for zoonotic transmission. Laboratory testing plays a central role in surveillance and control programmes, supporting the identification of infected animals and the management of herd health at both national and international levels.

APHA is a World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Reference Laboratory for brucellosis, as well as the UK National Reference Laboratory. Reagents are developed and produced within this environment to support consistent and reliable performance across routine and reference laboratory testing.

    Brucella Reagents

    Brucella diagnostic reagents are used extensively in livestock testing programmes to support surveillance, disease control and herd health management. Serological testing plays a key role in identifying infected animals and monitoring disease status.

    APHA Scientific provides high-quality reagents developed within a WOAH and FAO Reference Laboratory and UK National Reference Laboratory environment. These materials support serological testing across multiple assay formats, including CFT, RBT, SAT and ELISA. Reagents are supplied in stabilised or lyophilised formats to support transport and global distribution, offering consistency and reliability for routine and reference laboratory testing.

    Synthetic Brucella Antigens

    Alongside our range of Brucella diagnostic reagents, APHA Scientific offers a portfolio of synthetic oligosaccharide antigens designed for use in Brucella serological assays.
