Overview

Chick Embryo Kidney (CEK) cells are a suspension of primary epithelial cells prepared from 17–19 day old SPAFAS chick embryos. The cells are supplied as a live cell suspension in specialised growth medium containing tryptose phosphate broth (TPB) at a seeding density of 5 × 10⁵ cells/ml.

As a primary cell preparation supplied as a suspension, cell stability is time and temperature dependent, and cells should be seeded immediately upon receipt to maintain viability and optimal performance. Under recommended culture conditions, cells typically form a confluent monolayer within approximately 48 hours and may be sub cultured.
