PT0185 Microbiology – Antimicrobial Sensitivity Test (AST)
- Sample Details 0.1 mL containing microorganism(s) freeze-dried in glass vials.
- Method Culture and isolation; closely aligned to the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC) method for antimicrobial susceptibility testing, or similar.
Overview
The purpose of the scheme is to help participants monitor their ability to successfully identify the antibiotic sensitivity of a known species from simulated bacterial specimens.
Result input
Results are returned through our electronic reporting system.
AST: Disc concentration, Zone size (mm), MIC (value), Sensitive or Resistant
Results deadline (from date of shipping)
21 days
PT Report
Authorised report will be published electronically. These will show intended result and results from all participants
Health and Safety
This material is for in vitro use only, not for use in animals.
Import Permit
It is the responsibility of the participants to check with their customs authority if an import permit is required to import VETQAS® PT samples. If a permit is required, we must receive a valid copy of the permit before the scheduled distribution date. Please note, if we do not receive the permit by the scheduled distribution date the samples will not be shipped and there will be no refund.
Provision of external services
Aspects of the Proficiency Testing schemes may at times be performed by a competent external service provider, for which VETQAS® is responsible.
Additional Information
Samples contain a pure organism. The panel of samples are for Antibiotic Sensitivity Testing (AST) using normal routine procedures where participants make their own choice of method to determine the AST results. The samples contain a pure bacterial organism that is Gram negative or positive. The isolates are derived from either reference or field strains. Participants will be given the identity of the microorganism, Gram status and disease area with range of antibiotics to be tested for example:
Gram Positive Mastitis AST – AMC2/1, AMP10, CL30, N30, NV30, P1, TE10, TY30
Gram Negative Enteric AST – AMC20/10, AMP10, APR15, ENR5, N10, SH25, SXT25, TE10
Gram Negative Respiratory AST – AMC20/10, AMP10, CPD10, EFT30, ENR5, FFC30, TE10, SXT25
Moved the above from the sample Type section – hope thats ok as there is more space for it here
