PT0092 Salmonella Antimicrobial Susceptibility Test
- Sample Details 10mg freeze-dried sample in glass vial.
- Method Antimicrobial susceptibility testing by disc diffusion or broth microdilution, using European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) method, or similar.
Overview
The purpose of the scheme is for participants to help monitor their ability to successfully identify the antibiotic sensitivity of a Salmonella isolate.
Result input
Results and a summary of methods employed are returned through our electronic reporting system.
Disc diffusion: Guidelines followed (e.g. EUCAST), Interpretative Criteria used (e.g. EUCAST clinical break points), Disc concentration, Zone size (mm), Interpretation as Sensitive, Intermediate, or Resistant
Broth microdilution: Guidelines followed (e.g. EUCAST), Interpretative Criteria used (e.g. EUCAST clinical break points, Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (value) Interpretation as Sensitive, Intermediate, or Resistant
Results deadline (from date of shipping)

PT Report
Authorised report will be published electronically. These will show intended result and results from all participants
Health and Safety
This material is for in vitro use only, not for use in animals.
Import Permit
It is the responsibility of the participants to check with their customs authority if an import permit is required to import VETQAS® PT samples. If a permit is required, we must receive a valid copy of the permit before the scheduled distribution date. Please note, if we do not receive the permit by the scheduled distribution date the samples will not be shipped and there will be no refund.
Provision of external services
Aspects of the Proficiency Testing schemes may at times be performed by a competent external service provider, for which VETQAS® is responsible.
Additional Information
The panel of samples is for Antibiotic Sensitivity Testing (AST) using EUCAST methods (or similar) following normal routine laboratory procedures to determine the AST results.
Participants will be given the identity of the microorganism and a list of antibiotics to be tested, for example: Amikacin, Amoxicillin /Clavulanate, Ampicillin, Apramycin, Cefotaxime, Ceftazidime, Chloramphenicol, Ciprofloxacin, Furazolidone, Gentamicin, Nalidixic Acid, Neomycin Streptomycin, Tetracycline and Trimethoprim/Sulphonamide. Participants should apply appropriate methods suitable for the antimicrobials under test.
Samples contain a pure isolate of Salmonella sp., derived from field strains.
AST results are to be interpreted according to the breakpoints used in the testing laboratory, and recorded as Sensitive, Intermediate, or Resistant.
